Wheelchair dancing crosses the boundaries of age, gender, and physical ability and includes individuals using manual or power chairs with varying levels of ability. It has been recognized as an International Paralympics Sport by the International Paralympics Committee.
Our vision utilizes the arts as a vehicle to broaden the thinking and resolve issues of exclusion facing people with physical challenges. Dance gives a person with a physical challenge the ability to break down the social barriers that exist in our society by partnering with a standing person to perform all forms of dance. This partnership, of one person in a wheelchair and a standing partner, gives both communities the incredible opportunity to view their differences in new and inspiring ways.
This is accomplished by providing wheelchair dancing programs, organizing classes, performances and training camps serving children and adults with disabilities. Providing recreational and performance level dancing to wheelchair and as physical, mental and emotional benefits.
All that the Wheelchair Dancers Organization does will be for the purpose of providing opportunity for the sport of dance for those who would otherwise be denied, were it not for the wheelchair adaptation.
The Mission of the Wheelchair Dancers Organization is to create an avenue by which the disabled community can enhance and strengthen their mind, body, and spirit through the art of dance.
